Birth charts of famous authors - not what I expected!

Last week I talked about the astrology birth chart for Mary Shelley.  It started me thinking about the other female authors we talked about in our most recent podcast episode, so I looked up their charts too (most of them) to see if there was some things in common.

I'll tell you, I expected to see Gemini, the sign of communication. But the rest of what I saw surprised me a fair bit.  It makes sense now that I think about it, but it wasn't what I expected.

So I looked at the Sun sign and its house placement, the Moon sign, the Ascendant, the Mercury placement, the ruler of the 3rd house, the North Node placement, and the Midheaven. And you know I love a spreadsheet (Mercury in Cap!) so here we go...

GERTRUDE STEINAQ 12VIR 7PISCESAQ 12TAURUSTAUR 2SAG
CHARLOTTE BRONTETAUR 8AQ 6VIRGOARIES 8SCORPGEM 10GEM

Much of this makes sense in retrospect, but wasn't what I expected. I see a lot more Sagittarius and Virgo than I expected to.  I only see one 10th house Gemini (that would be the career house, ruled by the sign of communication).  There are zero Sun in Gemini, and only two 3rd house placements in that whole chart. But here's what we do have.  Louisa May Alcott and Jane Austen both have a Sagittarius Sun, Virgo Rising. (Since the ascendant determines the house placements, other commonalities would follow.) There have Gemini Midheavens.  The Midheaven relates to your career and/or calling in life. Agatha Christie and Mary Shelley both have Virgo Sun and Gemini North Node. (North Node is the path of evolution in this life. Like a lighthouse light that you follow whether you intend to or not.)

Overall, there's less air than I expected - Aquarius, Gemini, Libra.  Air signs are the thinkers.  There's quite a lot of Earth, which is practical and grounded.  One might expect to see more Water too, especially among the poets!  I was surprised by the Scorpio. Scorpio is deep for sure, but it is more suited to investigating and uncovering secrets.  If anything, I might expect to see that with Agatha Christie, famous for her whodunit mystery novels, but she has no Scorpio.

The 3rd house is all over the place, but Scorpio has the most, in this chart anyway. Gemini does lead the Midheaven and North Node columns, and I'm glad or I might just hang up my astrology hat! For Sun signs, Sagittarius, Virgo, and Taurus are tied in this collection.  Taurus does surprise me.  I have to admit I don't really visualize Taurus at a typewriter as much as I view them in a kitchen or on a bed, hehe.
Virgo wins in the ascendants category.

Sagittarius wins for most overall placements, followed by Gemini (though not as many as I expected) tied with Virgo.  Virgo IS also ruled by Mercury (something I often protest), so that does make sense.  And one does need an eye for detail when writing.  But I usually think of Virgo as a surgeon.  I guess they can wield the pen AND the scalpel.

(I looked up Poe, and he's all Capricorn and Scorpio and a bunch of water...so...) In summary, what the fuck do I know? I know that I still don't feel the itch to write a book, but I wish I did.  If you happen to look up your favorite author, drop me a note and let me know what you discover!
