The Season Changes, and So Do the Terms
This week brings us the first day of autumn as the Sun enters Libra on September 22. The equinox is the point of balance between light and darkness, but astrology’s version of balance is not always peaceful or particularly polite. Libra season turns our attention toward relationships, justice, reciprocity, and the agreements that hold our lives together. It asks whether there is a genuine exchange happening…or whether one person has been bending over backward while everyone admires how flexible she is.
We begin the week with Mars conjunct Lilith in Cancer and opposing Juno in Capricorn. This puts home, family, caregiving, bodily autonomy, and emotional labor directly across from commitment, responsibility, and the contracts we have made with other people. Protective anger may rise around the places where care has quietly become coercion. The question is not whether we love people or take our commitments seriously. The question is whether those commitments depend on one person continuously swallowing her needs, anticipating everyone else’s, and calling the arrangement love.
Pallas trine Jupiter gives us the ability to do something useful with that anger. Pallas is the strategist; Jupiter sees the larger possibility. Together they help us step back from the immediate emotional reaction and recognize the larger pattern. Kaali entering Cancer adds another layer of primal feminine power to family, ancestry, motherhood, protection, and the body. Something that has been buried or inherited may become much harder to suppress. This does not mean we need to set the family group chat on fire…but it might mean we finally stop pretending we cannot smell the smoke.
Mercury meeting Fortuna in Libra can create an opening through a conversation, negotiation, piece of writing, introduction, or decision. Meanwhile, Juno trine Circe helps us name what is actually happening inside our commitments. Circe understands the power of language, especially when a situation has been disguised by euphemisms like “keeping the peace,” “being the bigger person,” or “that’s just how they are.” Once we describe the arrangement accurately, we may discover that the solution is not trying harder. It is changing the terms.
The main event arrives September 26 with the Full Moon at 3° Aries. Every Aries–Libra lunation asks us to examine the relationship between self and other, independence and compromise, personal desire and shared responsibility. But this Full Moon is conjunct Neptune, sextile Pluto, and sextile Uranus, so something may be emotionally released, spiritually revealed, or suddenly impossible to unknow. Neptune dissolves an old identity, Pluto exposes the deeper truth, and Uranus offers an unexpected route forward. If we have been maintaining balance by slowly removing ourselves from the equation, this Moon may make the cost of that arrangement painfully obvious.
The Libra Sun is also conjunct Magdalena during the Full Moon, bringing stories of shame, exile, misrepresentation, and being defined by someone else into the light. Magdalena asks us to reclaim the woman underneath the story told about her. The Full Moon’s trines to Abundantia and Hypnos suggest that dreams, rest, intuition, and unconscious material may contain something valuable. Abundance is not always about acquiring more. Sometimes it begins with recognizing what has been draining our time, money, creativity, or life force and finally closing the damn leak.
Dolly continues her opposition to Eos, goddess of the dawn, while Jupiter squares Dolly. A new chapter wants to begin, and it may bring growth, attention, or opportunity—but Dolly reminds us to read the contract. Exposure is not payment. Generosity does not require naïveté. You can share your gifts with the world and still retain the rights to your own story. When Mars enters Leo on September 27, the energy becomes louder, braver, more creative, and much less willing to remain backstage. Mars in Leo wants us to act like our lives belong to us…because they do.
